Biography
Azat Bisembiuly Malik is a baritone, born in Kazakhstan in 1991. He studied at the Kazangap Music College in Kyzylorda (2008—2012), then took his bachelor's degree with distinction at the Kazakh National University of Arts (2012—2016), where he was named student of the year in 2016.
In 2013 an academic mobility programme took him to the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome for five months. He holds a master's degree in art history from the Kazakh National University of Arts (2017—2019) and a master's in opera from the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest (2018—2021). From 2021 to 2023 he studied at the Astana Opera International Opera Academy.
He is a holder of the State Prize “Daryn”, won the Grand Prix at the Shabyt, Nurgisa Tlendiev and Mukan Tulebayev international competitions, and is a laureate of the Éva Marton and Maria Bieșu competitions. He also received the audience prize at the Rimsky-Korsakov International Competition for Opera Singers in St Petersburg.
He has appeared in Italy (Turin, Milan, Rome, the Vatican, Florence), Germany (the Berlin Philharmonic, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich), Austria, Slovenia, France, Serbia, Turkey, Hungary and Russia, including the Mariinsky Theatre. In 2024 he opened the Hungarian National Opera's 100th anniversary season in Nixon in China as Chou En-lai; in 2026 he opened the new season at Dubai Opera in La Bohème, singing both Schaunard and Marcello across three premiere performances.
He is a soloist of the Hungarian National Opera, a guest soloist at Dubai Opera and a soloist of the Rosa Baglanova State Concert Academic Organisation “Qazaqconcert”. He chairs the Union of Vocalists of Kazakhstan.
